Andy Roe served for 23 years in the London Fire Brigade, starting as a firefighter in 2002 and rising through the ranks to become London Fire Commissioner in 2020. As Commissioner, he led the Brigade through major reforms, national emergencies, and implemented all of the Grenfell Tower Inquiry recommendations, earning recognition for his transformational leadership and dedication to public safety.

Andy’s non-executive roles included a non-executive directorship on the board of the National Fire Chief’s Council (NFCC), the Chair of the National Security Board for the Fire sector, and membership of the Kings College London Impact Board. He has recently been appointed Chair of the new Building Safety Regulator, where he is tasked with both driving radical improvement and creating a new independent body to shape future construction regulation. He is a non-executive director  of GB (Olympic) Boxing and the independent strategic safety advisor to TFL.

Andy Roe

Andy is a former British Army captain and London Fire Commissioner (2020–2025), and is recognised for his decisive leadership during the Grenfell Tower fire, where he revoked the “stay put” policy, and for driving major reforms in the aftermath. Joining the London Fire Brigade in 2002, he rose from firefighter to Commissioner, overseeing full implementation of the Grenfell Inquiry’s recommendations, significant cultural change, and pandemic response efforts. Post-retirement, he has been appointed as Chair of the Building Safety Regulator, leading radical improvement and the creation of a new independent safety regulator. He is also the strategic safety advisor to TFL and a non-executive director of GB Boxing. Awarded the King’s Fire Service Medal in 2024, Roe continues to shape public safety, regulation, and organisational leadership at the highest levels.
